About St. James Chapter, NSDAR, Westminster, United Kingdom
St. James Chapter, NSDAR, was founded and officially organised on the centennial date of the National Society, 11 October 1990. The occasion of the dual date of the Centennial and our organisation was celebrated with a black-tie gala at a distinguished London members club. Diplomatic dignitaries from nations connected to the original thirteen colonies during the American Revolutionary War, members of the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) in the United Kingdom and other guests gathered to commemorate this special event.
Our Chapter’s name draws inspiration from the ‘Court of St. James’, the official diplomatic posting to the United Kingdom. John Adams, later to become the second President of the United States, was the first Envoy Extraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary to this prestigious post from the newly formed United States of America (1785 to 1788).
St. James Chapter, NSDAR, is a United Kingdom-based non-profit women’s lineage society, the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution as part of the NSDAR’s Units Overseas Committee Chapters.
At St. James Chapter, NSDAR, heritage is our cornerstone, and service is our compass. With deep-rooted ties to both sides of the Atlantic. Our Chapter is committed to upholding the legacy of our National Society and shaping a future guided by the values we hold dear.
We have four business meetings per year, but we meet more frequently in support of our charities, projects or social events.
With our members of all ages located in England, Scotland, Wales, the European Union and the United States, the Chapter has always held hybrid meetings since the technology became widely used. We invite our Associate Members to join us in our regular meetings. Some Associate Members rise in the very early hours of their local time zone to contribute!
